She lived in my home town for a couple of years in the early '70s. Big day sports fans. The Saints are marching into Texas stadium today to play with the Cowboys tonight. Both teams are at 8 and 4. Should be an interesting game with the Cowboys prevailing. The Mavs are doing well also. SNOW.... we need much more. We've only got 5 out of 55 runs open right now. That's not near nuff to get me up there. I don't want to go to Taos or Colorado but we are planning a trip in Jan. just in case. The INVASION..... the cost just passed the $350 billion mark, and that's just the financial cost. Just think of the rest....... It is depressing if one dwells on it too much. It seems that Natilie Maines was right on track back in '03 when she made her remarks BEFORE the invasion started. All those ultra-patriotic songs that came out in '03 don't get much airplay now. One that comes to mind is Toby Keith's song that goes "we'll put a boot up your a$$ courtesy of the USA." Well now, where's that boot now? My current read is IN CONTROL, by Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson. I'll probably ski tomorrow if it's not too windy. It's great living so close to a ski area we can be real picky about what days we go. It's now 16 degrees with a low of 10 expected. SPORTS The Cowboys are much improved since the last time I posted. They seem to be really Romovated now. They might reach the 11-5 mark I predicted in the offseason. The Mavs are also doing much better having just won 10 in a row, get er done. BEDS I got me on of them Tempurpedic mattress a few days ago and I love it. Slept better last night than I have in a couple of months. But there's still an impression of the young lady who was in it last night. It just has not sprung back to shape like they said it would. LOL I've got 120 day sleep test drive, if the impression of her is not gone by then I'll send the sucker back. I don't like daylight savings time, the nights are way too long. We had a few snows in October but it unlikely our ski area will open Thanksgiving as usual. Maybe it will start snowing soon and they can make alot up there. Sports. The Cowboys are off to a lousy start at 4 and 4. I do think they have solved the QB problem, but there are many to solve with this team. Halfway there, and they will be lucky tomake the playoffs. The Mavericks. They are off to an even more lousy start at 1 win and 4 losses. But there are 78 more games. The Elections. Quite impressive if one is not a Republican. I'm thinking of who the Democrats will elect for President. And Chuck, I no longer would consider Hillary for President. I would however, if possible like to see Bill run again. Since that is not possible I, at this point, like Joe Biden and NM's own Bill Richardson. If the Republicans choose McCain, and I hope they do, A democrat is sure to become President. MUSIC. If you don't have Train, Three Doors Down, Little Feet, and Big Brother in your collection, you're missin out. I'm sober, day 420. That's it for now. Yes somewhere aroung 9/15/06 I passed one year of sobriety. It seems like only 3 or 4 months. Once I made up my mind I wanted to stop It was not that hard to do. I had not ever been more than 5 or 6 months sober till now. That goes back to 1977. I went to about 20 AA meetings at first and I like their twelve steps but I just didn't feel comfortable maybe it had something to do with admitting to those present that I am an alcoholic. I'm still not sure I am but well may be. I just knew I was drinking too much too often. It didn't even really matter what type of alcohol either. I was lucky back in 2003 when I got I got a DUI that no other people or property was involved and I was not injured. But still I drank another 2 years before I quit. I plan to never drink again. I have had to change my behavior and quit going places and hanging with people where I would be tempted. But I tell you, I have never felt better. I lost about 18 pounds which mainly beer weight anyway. Plus it's nice having that extra money in my wallet, it really adds up. Even at $10.00 per day, thats $3650.00. I can dig it. Addictions, whatever they may be can be overcome. I think AA is a good place to start. I was suprised at how many people at the meetings where there to get help for all types of drug addictions, alcohol being the main drug. There is always hope and help. Peace

Lookin at out my window

I just saw 4 good sized buck deer walk by followed by a doe followed by a big mature white faced buck deer. We had a rather wet and cool July here which we we are all happy about. I hope August follows suit. Just had accupuncture and a massage and feeling pretty darn good. Back to nature, a mother black bear and her two cubs were spotted early Sunday in a tree sleeping next to the golf course. I wish I had seen them and got pictures. I realized its been at least 3 weeks since I blogged so I thought it was past time. Not a lot going on except work, yard work, and golf. I just started gettin into golf this summer and it's a lot of fun, and of course somewhat frustrating. I have a large lot which is great except for the upkeep. I've got tons of pine trees and I'm continually thinning them out. I had a climber out last friday and had him take down 9 which were dead or dying. Mistletoe and bark beetles get a lot of them. He doesn't do any cleanup, just cuts them into 4 to 5 feet sections. I don't mind and it saves me a lot of money. To see these guys climb these 40 to 50 foot trees and bring them down is really cool to watch. It also reduces the fire hazard which is always on our minds. Oh yea, My dad played golf with us today and beat us soundly. He has been playing a long time and he has got a good game at age 74. It was only his fourth time to play that course, pretty cool.

Kimo's Rules

I'm not exactly sure of the origin of Kimo or his rules but here they are as were given to me by registered massage therapist inthe 80's. 1. The Mavs are a young team and will only get better. I've always liked and admired Pat Riley. He won a NBA title as a player in 1972. Now in 2006, he wins another title at age 61. A total of 5 as a player and coach. A class act. It's not the way the Mavs and Mavs fans planned to start the summer but that's the way it is. Here's hoping for a better year next year, Go Mavs!

9 months and 2 Wins

Seasons Greetings, It is kinda hot here which is not normal. 88 degrees is rare and it lasts only for a couple of hours, back to 50 at night. Now then The Mavs are 2 wins away from the NBA title. Game 4 is tonight in Miami. Go Mavs! Now then, today it has been 9 months (271) days since I have consumed any alcohol whatsoever. YEAH! I never considered myself to be an alcoholic but I may well be. It became harder and harder to moderate my consumption so I just quit. I went to a few of the AA meetings, and I like the 12 steps and have read a couple of books on the subject. I plan never to drink again, not a drop. I quit smoking in '95 and glad I did. Now then, I guess that's about it for now. The Mavs and the Heat will take on each other in the NBA Finals. It is the first time for either team to reach the Finals. It starts in Dallas this Thursday night. The Mavs have the home court advantage which should help their cause. Most analyists favor the Mavs, I also. I really think this their year to win it all. Besides that not much news here. We had a little rain but we need a lot more. The National forest is closed due to extreme fire danger. No camping there, no charcoal anywhere, no fireworks and no watering our lawns. Bucket watering is allowed for plants. We also have a water crisis here. I go outside of the house to take a leak a lot to save the 2 to 4 gallons it take to flush the toilet. Its cool because I have a large lot with lots of trees . It's part of my conservative nature. Plus in the winter, I get to write stuff in the snow. A good thing about living at 7000 feet is that it seldom gets above 84 degrees, and that is only for a few hours a day. It's cool. The average low temp in July is 48 degrees. Off to see Foreigner in concert tonight. I saw them in '78. I'll see how they compare to their hayday in the 70s.

Back in the Saddle

I made it back from Texas on Monday. Mama Clara's funeral was Sunday. It was a real nice service and she looked beautiful lying in the casket she picked out herself. My cousin Chris got up and spoke to us before the preacher. He was probably the closest grandson to her having lived in the same town as her for his 52 years. He described her as being his best friend for his 52 years. he described her as being 88 pounds of dynamite and a good thing she had a long fuse. He said she's not here, we all know where she is, now she can spread her joy to others in Heaven. He is a musician and at the gravesite, he pulled out his guitar and played a song he wrote for her for this occasion. It talked about " close those baby blues" and such. It was real touching. My cousin Chris is truly one of a kind. He has two girls 19 and 17. He has been married twice. It's too bad that our family doesn't get together more often, we should. It's a short ride we're on. If you haven't already, tell somebody you love them.

Mama Clara.. 1907-2006

Folks, Mama Clara (my Dads mother) passed away on wednesday. She was 99 years old. The funeral will be in Texas on Sunday. I'll go over tomorrow and come back Monday. She was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters and the last to pass on. She never suffered. She had a great life. I hope this will be a celebration of her life rather than a real sad affair. Her only daughter who is 75 has had several back operations recently and wont be able to attend. She just can't travel. That is sad. About 15 years ago my dad, who is the executor of her will, took her to pick out caskets. She was all for it. They found one she liked and dad, being the joker he is, told her to climb in and see how it fits. They all had a big laugh out of that. It will be good to see family that I have not seen in years. And of course to see Mama Clara again.

There you have it

Folks, life is better for me now. Its been actin up for about a month so I'm not suprised. Its as least 10 yrs old, I'm not gonna get it repaired. It was struck by lightening 2 yrs ago. But for it to happen right here in the NBA finals is not good. I'll have watch the Mavs finish off the Spurs on one of my 19's or go elsewhere. Ive searched the web and decided to buy a Dell 37 inch LCD with PIP. I love my PIP, and it loves me. We got rainin the Land of Enchancement a few days ina row. The Texas Showdown. The Spurs against The Mavericks. I'm a huge Mavs fan having lived in the area 20 yrs. Avery Johnson has done an amazing job in his first year as head coach. He has a better winning percentage in his first 100 games than any coach in history. He was named coach of the year. He was a great Spurs player and was on their teams when they won two NBA championships. The Spurs have home court advantage and they will need it. They finished up with the Sac. King friday night while the Mavs had 5 days of rest. Can't you just feel the excitement? Boy, I do. I just try not to think about the Detroit Pistons waiting for the team to emerge from the West. PS. I was going to make the drive over to Texas yesterday to see her, but I just did not feel good at all. My parents went over on Friday and they will be there for her birthday today. Oh yea, she is my Dad's mother. Her oldest son is 78, I guess you know you are getting old when your oldest son is 78, huh. She has been in a assisted living center for about 8 years. She has Alzheimers but other than that she is in pretty good health. She could easily outlive some of her children. She has 5 kids, 14 grandkids, and several great-great grand kids. She doesn't really know us when we go to see her, but at least we do go and I think it makes us all feel better. I was fortunate to have grown up in a small town where all 4 of my grandparents lived in the same town. I could walk to their houses. None of them died until I was bout 18. My family ran a dry cleaners for over 50 years and a tailor shop. Mama Clara was master quilter and she made everyone of us grandkids a quilt complete with date and her age. Shes' a special woman. I'll make it over there in a month or so to see her.

Virgin Again

Soundzboutright Here goes this my first post. I'll call it the Virgin. I don't really know what I'm doing here kinda like when I was a virgin in '74, but I got thru it then and I'll get thru it know. Lets get right to Politics. I support our troops but I do not support Bush. I'm native Texan but that does'nt matter. We should have never invaded Iraq. I think he so determined to do what his daddy didn't do (catch Sadaam) he ignored his best advisors and went to war anyway. He is hard-headed, arrogant and lost. Those people in that region have been fighting each other forever and always will, In the name of Religion. Ok, now to sports. I'm a Mavs fan but I don't think anyone can beat the Pistons this year. I couldn't care less about Hockey. I do feel TO is a great addition to the Cowboys. Even if he screwed up San Fran and Philly, Who Cares? advantage Cowboys. I'm not much of a babseball fan either. Too much time is wasted. The batters should adjust their caps, glasses, shirt, gloves, jock straps, pants, socks and shoes PRIOR to walking out there to hit the ball. I already miss skiing and the snow and peace and quiet it brings. On to music. I tell you 3 Doors Down is a damn good band. One of the newer ones that caught my ear. I like Train and Matchbox 20 is ok. I can do without Greenday. How bout the Smithereens? Well I'm fixin to mash the publish post and see what happens.
