Mama Clara.. 1907-2006
Folks, Mama Clara (my Dads mother) passed away on wednesday. She was 99 years old. The funeral will be in Texas on Sunday. I'll go over tomorrow and come back Monday. She was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters and the last to pass on. She never suffered. She had a great life. I hope this will be a celebration of her life rather than a real sad affair. Her only daughter who is 75 has had several back operations recently and wont be able to attend. She just can't travel. That is sad. About 15 years ago my dad, who is the executor of her will, took her to pick out caskets. She was all for it. They found one she liked and dad, being the joker he is, told her to climb in and see how it fits. They all had a big laugh out of that. It will be good to see family that I have not seen in years. And of course to see Mama Clara again.

mamma clara was as old as oklahoma. i'm sorry for your loss my friend. celebrating her life is a good way to handle it. i'm glad you are able to attend. your dad sounds like a funny man. i'm sure there will be some laughter mixed with the crying, i'm sure there are many good stories to tell. best wishes.
Chuck, thanks for the kind words. It was a definitely a celebration with laughter far outweighing the tears. Lots of story telling and good reflections on her and our family. Thats neat she was born the same time as OK. She was born in McKinney and lived in Gainsville until the mid 20's and then moved to west Texas.
i like a family with a sense of humor. having Mama Clara check out the casket made me laugh. sounds like your family has happy memories. i'm new to the "blog" stuff. found you by way of perpetually clueless (whom i get a kick out of)

Hey acaligurl, yea our family is full of clowns and Mama Clara was certainly a clown herself. The angels will get a kick out of her.
