OH YEA

I almost forgot about this. I spend a lot of time at www.lubbockonline, a discussion board with a wide variety of subjects and posters. One can be anonymous and it's free. Sign up and join in. Today is my birthday. I came out kickin and screaming in TX in 1959. I share birthdays with Andie McDowell (1958), Tony Danza (1951), Queen Elizabeth II, Charles Grodin, and other folks I'm sure. My golf game is coming along pretty good for just my 2nd year. I've been sober over 19 months, the best thing I've done for myself so far. Peace and Love Dudes and Dudettes! PS I joined tribe and its pretty cool. If anyone is interested let me know.

Car Wheels on a Gravel Road

That's the title because that's what I am currently listening to by Lucinda Williams. She lived in my home town for a couple of years in the early '70s. Big day sports fans. The Saints are marching into Texas stadium today to play with the Cowboys tonight. Both teams are at 8 and 4. Should be an interesting game with the Cowboys prevailing. The Mavs are doing well also. SNOW.... we need much more. We've only got 5 out of 55 runs open right now. That's not near nuff to get me up there. I don't want to go to Taos or Colorado but we are planning a trip in Jan. just in case. The INVASION..... the cost just passed the $350 billion mark, and that's just the financial cost. Just think of the rest....... It is depressing if one dwells on it too much. It seems that Natilie Maines was right on track back in '03 when she made her remarks BEFORE the invasion started. All those ultra-patriotic songs that came out in '03 don't get much airplay now. One that comes to mind is Toby Keith's song that goes "we'll put a boot up your a$$ courtesy of the USA." Well now, where's that boot now? My current read is IN CONTROL, by Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson. Day 447 sober...Good Day!

Snow

We finally had a decent snow here today about 5 inches with more expected tomorrow and tomorrow night. I'll probably ski tomorrow if it's not too windy. It's great living so close to a ski area we can be real picky about what days we go. It's now 16 degrees with a low of 10 expected. SPORTS The Cowboys are much improved since the last time I posted. They seem to be really Romovated now. They might reach the 11-5 mark I predicted in the offseason. The Mavs are also doing much better having just won 10 in a row, get er done. BEDS I got me on of them Tempurpedic mattress a few days ago and I love it. Slept better last night than I have in a couple of months. But there's still an impression of the young lady who was in it last night. It just has not sprung back to shape like they said it would. LOL I've got 120 day sleep test drive, if the impression of her is not gone by then I'll send the sucker back. What else can I do? 438 days into sobriety and I fee like a thousand dollars!

FALL

Wow how time flys when you're having fun, or not. I don't like daylight savings time, the nights are way too long. We had a few snows in October but it unlikely our ski area will open Thanksgiving as usual. Maybe it will start snowing soon and they can make alot up there. Sports. The Cowboys are off to a lousy start at 4 and 4. I do think they have solved the QB problem, but there are many to solve with this team. Halfway there, and they will be lucky tomake the playoffs. The Mavericks. They are off to an even more lousy start at 1 win and 4 losses. But there are 78 more games. The Elections. Quite impressive if one is not a Republican. I'm thinking of who the Democrats will elect for President. And Chuck, I no longer would consider Hillary for President. I would however, if possible like to see Bill run again. Since that is not possible I, at this point, like Joe Biden and NM's own Bill Richardson. If the Republicans choose McCain, and I hope they do, A democrat is sure to become President. MUSIC. If you don't have Train, Three Doors Down, Little Feet, and Big Brother in your collection, you're missin out. I'm sober, day 420. That's it for now. Peace out.........

365 Days+

Seasons Greetings! Yes somewhere aroung 9/15/06 I passed one year of sobriety. It seems like only 3 or 4 months. Once I made up my mind I wanted to stop It was not that hard to do. I had not ever been more than 5 or 6 months sober till now. That goes back to 1977. I went to about 20 AA meetings at first and I like their twelve steps but I just didn't feel comfortable maybe it had something to do with admitting to those present that I am an alcoholic. I'm still not sure I am but well may be. I just knew I was drinking too much too often. It didn't even really matter what type of alcohol either. I was lucky back in 2003 when I got I got a DUI that no other people or property was involved and I was not injured. But still I drank another 2 years before I quit. I plan to never drink again. I have had to change my behavior and quit going places and hanging with people where I would be tempted. But I tell you, I have never felt better. I lost about 18 pounds which mainly beer weight anyway. Plus it's nice having that extra money in my wallet, it really adds up. Even at $10.00 per day, thats $3650.00. I can dig it. Addictions, whatever they may be can be overcome. I think AA is a good place to start. I was suprised at how many people at the meetings where there to get help for all types of drug addictions, alcohol being the main drug. There is always hope and help. Peace

Lookin at out my window

I just saw 4 good sized buck deer walk by followed by a doe followed by a big mature white faced buck deer. They were in single file like I was watching a parade. The little ones are being born right around now. I should start to see them about with their white spots and all. We had a rather wet and cool July here which we we are all happy about. I hope August follows suit. Just had accupuncture and a massage and feeling pretty darn good. Back to nature, a mother black bear and her two cubs were spotted early Sunday in a tree sleeping next to the golf course. I wish I had seen them and got pictures. I also wish I knew how to put pictures on a blog site or comment page. Some day I will.

Time Flies or Time Flys?

Doesn't it though. I realized its been at least 3 weeks since I blogged so I thought it was past time. Not a lot going on except work, yard work, and golf. I just started gettin into golf this summer and it's a lot of fun, and of course somewhat frustrating. I have a large lot which is great except for the upkeep. I've got tons of pine trees and I'm continually thinning them out. I had a climber out last friday and had him take down 9 which were dead or dying. Mistletoe and bark beetles get a lot of them. He doesn't do any cleanup, just cuts them into 4 to 5 feet sections. I don't mind and it saves me a lot of money. To see these guys climb these 40 to 50 foot trees and bring them down is really cool to watch. It also reduces the fire hazard which is always on our minds. Oh yea, My dad played golf with us today and beat us soundly. He has been playing a long time and he has got a good game at age 74. It was only his fourth time to play that course, pretty cool.
